MENTAIKO PASTA

For lunch today I tossed up some wafu pasta. (Japanese-style pasta with an umami punch).

I have always loved Mentaiko pasta but find them a bit pricey to eat outside. The instant packets with the freeze dried mentaiko weren’t doing it for me too.

Now, with some time in Tokyo, and those beautiful smoky sacs for sale at $3 i couldn’t resist trying my hands at creating the dish from scratch.

If you don’t live in Japan, you can get these umami bombs from most Asian supermarkets either frozen or chilled.

Cooking from home also allowed me to add a nice dash of wasabi for that pungent heat to cut through the richness of the decadent sauce.
